The true story of
Jean-Dominique Bauby, world-famous editor of Elle magazine, who at the
age of 43 suffered a devastating accident which left him paralysed and
only able to communicate with his left eyelid. From Baubys' perspective
we see friends, family and memories come and go. Slowly, with therapy,
he learns to communicate his thoughts and feelings. Through his speech
therapist he transcribes his memoirs and two years later they are
published and become a best-selling book. This remarkable story is
beautifully realised in this heart-rending film with an award winning
performance from Mathieu Amalric as Bauby. Other awards included a
Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and the prestigious Best
Director award for Juilan Schnabel at the Cannes Film Festival.
